Founded in 2002, Laser & Plasma Technologies (LPT) is a research and development company focused on commercializing novel materials, devices, and systems based on lasers, optical sensors, and other innovative technologies. Our facility is located adjacent to NASA Langley in Hampton, VA, within the National Institute of Aerospace campus.
Dr. Paul Shen // Senior Research Scientist
Dr. Shen has strong background in a variety of fields including physics, biophysics, material science, chemistry, and computer programming. He oversees new projects and optical resources at LPT. Paul has over 20 years of R&D expertise in optics and extensive hands-on experience in modeling, designing, diagnosing, and characterization of optical components and systems. Dr. Shen has generated a number of new Phase I and Phase II projects and developed various novel techniques for optical detection as part of the LPT team. Paul received his Ph.D. in physics from the City University of New York in 1998.
Waverly Marsh // Research Scientist
Waverly began his career working as a Laser Engineer at NASA developing custom lasers for atmospheric LIDAR missions. At ITT, he continued support of NASA Ozone LIDAR projects and developed lasers and nonlinear modules for Chem-Bio military applications. He has extensive experience in MathCAD modeling as well as optics specification and lab experimentation. He received his BS in Physics from Old Dominion University in 1989 and holds 2 US patents.
Waverly’s entertaining personality makes even the most serious experiment enjoyable.
